New Delhi: Literary doyen and pioneer of recent poetry in Malayalam, K Satchidanandan, has been selected for the ninth Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia Award for Poetry. The prize, given by the Jaipur Literature Festival in collaboration with the Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia Foundation, is in honour of Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia and his in depth discography. A token of appreciation and a felicitation on the Festival are given to the winner along with a money prize of Rs 1 lakh.
K Satchidanandan, a bilingual critic who writes in Malayalam and English, editor, translator, and tutorial, acquired unanimous approval from the jury committee. In addition to performs and travelogues, Satchidanandan, a former secretary of the Sahitya Akademi, has written twenty-one poetry collections, sixteen books of translations of different poetries from all over the world, and twenty-one works of literary critique in Malayalam and English. He is a Fellow of the Kerala Academy of Literature and has acquired twenty-five honours from varied organisations in India and abroad for his literary contributions. His consultant poetry collections have been revealed in 18 totally different languages. His writing has been included in poetry anthologies from the USA to Australia in plenty of totally different nations.
The award will likely be accorded on the venerable Jaipur Literature Festival, which is able to rejoice its sixteenth anniversary on the Hotel Clarks Amer in Jaipur from January 19-23. A distinguished panel, together with Festival Co-Director Namita Gokhale, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts and Festival Producer Sanjoy K. Roy, well-known poets Ranjit Hoskote and Anamika, and Siddharth Sethia of the Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia Foundation, rigorously selects the recipient of the award.
