Stomach cancer: Your mouthwash can help spot the early symptoms better | Health News

Doctors say that when it comes to cancer treatment, it is important to be aware of the early signs so as to detect the disease sooner and treat it in an early stage. This is why researchers recommend the mouthwash which analyses mouth bacteria in people at risk of stomach cancer.

Experts noted significant differences between the oral health of the healthy people and those living with pre-cancerous health problems.

New Delhi: A simple mouthwash can help detect stomach cancer better and faster. Stomach cancer is one of the most common forms of the disease detected in India. The swish and spit mouthwash, which is used to do an oral rinse, picks up specific bacteria linked to gastric cancer risk even before it develops. Doctors say that this disease is usually diagnosed at an advanced stage due to absence of symptoms. In most cases, it is missed because the signs are similar to other health problems that are not so serious.
How does a mouthwash help with stomach cancer diagnosis?
Doctors say that when it comes to cancer treatment, it is important to be aware of the early signs so as to detect the disease sooner and treat it in an early stage. This is why researchers recommend the mouthwash which analyses mouth bacteria in people at risk of stomach cancer. It helps identify biomarkers associated with the deadly disease. Doctors say that if not detected timely, this disease can be deadly.
For this, researchers anaylsed the bacteria sampels from the mouths of 98 patients who had to undergo endoscopy. 30 of them were found to have stomach cancer, 38 were healthy and the rest had a pre-cancerous condition. Experts noted significant differences between the oral health of the healthy people and those living with pre-cancerous health problems. Researchers also noted only a few differences between the samples of patients living with cancer or those who are at risk of it. Experts said that this suggests that the changes in mouth microbiome can occur as soon as the stomach undergoes changes that may lead to cancer later. The findings will be presented at theb Digestive Disease Conference.
